Another Site to Visit: City Skip

Filed under Urban Design, Photography, Other Resources, Comtemporary Culture with 2 Comments

I've never been able to quite figure out how (or when) Nikka does it all, but it's always a joy to wander through her sites. She runs a series of sites/blogs that look at urbanism, redevelopment, design/art, and social life/culture.

I would recommend visiting her newest site: the Cityskip social network at ning.com.

I'm just starting to figure it out, but the format of Cityskip.ning is creating a space for folks that are interested in city areas.

Rather than focusing one one medium (e.g. city photographers or city writers) the site tries to pull many ideas and forums together.

For instance, Cityskip.ning has a really cool group map that allows network members to place/categorize places, with photos, onto a communal map (if that makes any sense). I used the map last weekend to help locate the Kingsbridge Armory. I'm sure the site has many other functionalities that will amaze me once I figure it out (you have to realize who you are dealing with here).

I'm interested to see where the Cityskip social networking site goes - but I hope it doesn't take up too much of her time so she stops posting to the Cityskip blog (and her other sites). Additionally, I always look forward to seeing what she has posted on her flickr site.

I find there's a certain quality of her work that reflects her interests in cities and urban areas. Not only does she write about, and document, urban areas and social life, her sites feel layered and occasionally chaotic. When I use the word chaotic, I mean it in the best sense - a little bit like standing on a street corner.

    Hi Zach,
I finally was able to get group maps going without a third-party app. Now all photos and videos automatically show up. Check it out:cityskip.ning.com/map
